Patient services at Co Clare’s main hospital will be dealt a further blow next week with the removal of 24-hour laboratory services because of the retirement of a staff member.

The withdrawal of the service has also led one member of the Health Service Executive’s health forum to question whether Ennis General Hospital could become a “dangerous place” as a result of the removal.

The HSE has confirmed the overnight lab service will be transferred to Limerick.
