Horse racing attendance nears 1.5 million

Attendances at Irish horse racing events reached almost 1.5 million last year, it emerged today.

Attendances at Irish horse racing events reached almost 1.5 million last year, it emerged today.

Horseracing Ireland's annual report also revealed a €59 million turnover during 2005.

The 1.43 million attendance level for 2005 jumped by 50,000 on the previous year. The report, which was considered at the Cabinet's weekly meeting today, will be published in coming days.

There were also five Irish winners in major races in the UK during 2005.
