The vision of the PD leader, Ms Mary Harney, of life in Ireland in the next millennium "offers the horrors of a society in which the needy can be further disadvantaged to the benefit of the greedy", according to Ms Joan Burton, Minister of State.
Her "shape up or ship out" approach to social concern would strike fear into the hearts of the elderly, the disabled, the marginalised, the sick and the deprived".
