NICE - Hormone treatment given to menopausal women has been found to be effective in staving off Alzheimer's disease, according to experts at a medical congress in southern France.

Dr Henri Rosenbaum said giving oestrogen supplements appeared to ward off the disease which afflicts 5 per cent of women over 60 and 20 per cent over 90, according to recent statistics.
