The SDLP leader, Mr John Hume, was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Ulster yesterday in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the political and economic life of Northern Ireland and his unswerving commitment to search for peace.
Mr Hume was one of 25 people honoured.
