A construction company is creating 150 jobs as a result of the Government’s home insulation scheme, it was announced today.

Dublin-based Durkan Residential said it was setting up a new subsidiary, Durkan EcoFix, to make homes more energy efficient with the help of Home Energy Saving Scheme (HES) grants.

Director Patrick Durkan said the scheme will cut costs for homeowners, help the economy and the environment.

“Right now home insulation presents the country with a great opportunity to make savings in our living expenses while investing in our homes, economy and environment at the same time,” he said.

The company estimates the home insulation market is worth €9 billion.

There are around 900,000 households around the country that are eligible for funding through the HES scheme, introduced by Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan. Grants range between €500 and €5,150.

It is believed home energy bills can be cut by as much as 60 per cent through insulation.
