The press adviser to Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan is to step down from the position in early February, it has been confirmed.

Yvonne Hyland, who formerly worked in the Fine Gael press office, was appointed to the position after the new Government was formed in 2011.

She is to leave the position in mid-February after two years in the position.

Last night a senior Government colleague, who spoke on an off-the-record basis said she was excellent at her job, was popular with her press officer colleagues in Government and would be missed.
