SYDNEY - Ivan Milat, the Australian road worker serving a life sentence for murdering seven backpackers, will appeal against his conviction, his solicitor said yesterday.

Milat, who was convicted and sentenced on Saturday, has always proclaimed his innocence. He was convicted of murdering seven backpackers in the Belanglo State Forest, 60 miles south west of Sydney, between 1989 and 1992.
