A man who was abused in an industrial school in Kilkenny when he was a child was awarded €370,000 damages and costs at the High Court today.

Raymond Noctor (45) of Leinster Crescent, Dublin Road Carlow sued the State, the Minister for Education, St Joseph's Industrial School, Kilkenny; the South Eastern Health Board and the Minister for Health.

When giving evidence Mr Noctor said he had been sexually abused on a number of occasions by a care worker, David Murray. He also said Mr Murray had beat him using a hurley, a brush or a strap.

Mr Noctor was also awarded costs of the proceedings The judge put a stay on the costs' order for 28 days in the event of an appeal.
