Militant Labour councillor Joe Higgins launched his campaign for the Dublin West by election at a meeting in Dublin last night.
Mr Higgins, who is chairman of the Dublin Federation of Anti Water Charges Campaigns, has represented the Mulhuddart area for the past four years. He is a former member of the Labour Party.
