Key West - Kermit "Shine" Forbes, the legendary sparring partner of the novelist Ernest Hemingway and a popular icon of old Key West, has died aged 84, hospital officials said yesterday. Forbes died of pancreatic cancer late on Wednesday at the Lower Keys Medical Centre, Florida.
In his trademark Panama hat and white tank top, Forbes was a fixture on the tourist island at the southern tip of Florida.
