Kinshasa - Four helicopters pounded a district of the Congo Republic capital, Brazzaville, yesterday morning, joining the conflict for the first time since it began almost three months ago, witnesses said.

Supporters of President Pascal Lissouba fired rocket launchers in support of the raid which was apparently targeted on a stronghold of his rival, Mr Denis Sassou Nguesso. There was no immediate information on casualties.
