Helicopter rescues two from Galway Bay

A man and a woman had a lucky escape after their sailing dinghy capsized in Galway Bay yesterday afternoon.

A man and a woman had a lucky escape after their sailing dinghy capsized in Galway Bay yesterday afternoon.

The pair had to be winched to safety by helicopter after the boat capsized near Blackhead off the Co Clare coast.

They pair clung on to the hull of their sailing craft until they were rescued. The Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter flew to the scene. They were taken to University Hospital Galway where they were treated for possible hypothermia but were otherwise uninjured.
