THE NORTH’S Health and Safety Executive is investigating the circumstances in which a man died in Kilkeel, Co Down, on Monday evening.

Kieran McClean (49), a married man with a young family from Newcastle, Co Down, died at the premises of the Engineering and Construction Group on Rooney Road in Kilkeel. It is understood Mr McClean, a design draughtsman, was fatally injured when a large steel and granite structure fell on top of him. He had worked for the company for 20 years.

He was taken to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry, Co Down where he died from his injuries.

A team of inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive visited the company yesterday to begin their investigation.

The company closed as a mark of respect to Mr McClean.
