Harney launches hospital appeal

An appeal to raise funds for a diabetes care centre at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin was launched yesterday by the Tanaiste, Ms Harney. According to Dr Chris Thompson, consultant endocrinologist, diabetes is a growing problem. "Approximately 10 per cent of the healthcare budget is spent on diabetes including related problems such as kidney, heart and eye disease," he said.
