A HOTEL receptionist has been awarded €30,000 by the Equality Tribunal in a case involving allegations of sexual harassment and discriminatory dismissal.

The decision is one of 17 published by the tribunal today.

The receptionist submitted that she was employed from June 2007 to August 2008 and worked mainly under the instruction of a Mr A, a company director. She said that in the months leading to August 2008, Mr A began to make inappropriate and unwelcome comments. She said he made an unprovoked advance, attempting to kiss her despite her resistance.

He denied the allegations. However, the tribunal found there had been “a prima facie case of harassment and sexual harassment”.
