GAZA - Palestinian police, under Israeli pressure to crack down on Islamic militants, have detained a senior political leader of the Hamas movement and were searching for others, his family said yesterday.

Relatives said Palestinian police summoned Mahmoud alZahhar for questioning on Thursday night and kept him in jail. Police also raided the homes of at least two other Hamas leaders, Sheikh Ahmed Bahar and Saiyed Abu Musameh, but did not find them.
