Gusmao marries Australian

Lisbon - The East Timor independence leader, Mr Xanana Gusmao, has married long-time Australian girlfriend, Ms Kirsty Sword, Portuguese media reported. The couple exchanged vows in a quiet Catholic ceremony on Sunday near Dili, capital of the former Portuguese colony which had been under Indonesian occupation until late last year. Ms Sword, who at 34 is some 20 years younger than her husband, had been active in East Timor's struggle for independence from Indonesia for over a decade, the Lusa agency reported.
