A MEMBER of a religious order in West Tallaght had told him that for the first time in 18 years serving the community there she was frightened, Mr Brian Hayes (FG) said. She had pointed to the amount of firearms readily available in several housing estates in the general locality.

Public representatives had weekly complaints of 13 and 14 year old "Idi Amins" terrorising Dublin communities which had failed to benefit from the economic boom in the southwest, he said.

In many cases, gardai simply did not want to know and they would not respond adequately to the problems in these estates.

Mr Hayes was speaking on the Bill empowering local authorities to expel tenants involved in drugs dealings. The measure was passed.
