Gunmen kill senator

Bogota - Gunmen yesterday shot and killed Senator Jorge Cristo of the ruling Liberal Party as he headed to his office in Cucuta, on the border with Venezuela, police said. Meanwhile Marxist guerrillas said they killed 26 soldiers posing as right-wing paramilitary fighters, and that six of their own men had died in a fierce battle in eastern Colombia. - (Reuter)
