The men, who wore civilian clothes, arrived at the al-Ibtikar Trade Contracting Company in five black BMWs at about 8.15am local time, said police Lt Maitham Abdul-Razzaq.

Five men and three women were killed, he said. The motive of the attack was not clear.

The assailants burned part of the building and appeared to have taken no money, Lt Abdul-Razzaq said.

Those who survived the attack told police the gunmen identified themselves as Iraqi Interior Ministry intelligence agents.
