AUCKLAND - A gunman killed at least six people and wounded 10 others in a shooting rampage early this morning in the central North Island town of Raurimu, south of here, police said. The alleged gunman has been arrested by police near the site of the killings.

There were unconfirmed reports a seventh person has been killed. The gunman, believed to be a local 50 year old, was hunted down by "armed offenders squad" police. Planes and helicopters were also called in to help with the search.

Police have told residents of the small town that the incident was related to domestic matters. The injured, at least six of whom are seriously wounded have been flown to hospitals around the North Island.
