AN invitation to the three clay Best of Everything Exhibition in Luttrellstown Castle this week sounded tantalising, especially as it was the rather posh sounding Lavinia Montgomery and Diana Polkinghorne who were doing the inviting.
What it turned out to be was a sort of upmarket bazaar with antique dealers, interior designers and galleries among others taking a space in the very beautiful first floor of the castle. According to Lavinia, this sort of low key event is popular in London and America and indeed the enterprising duo are just back from Ms Polkinghorne's native Sydney, where they also held a very successful Best of Everything.
There was such enthusiasm forte Luttrellstown show that they are already planning next year's.
Most interesting exhibitor was Lady Marion Langham, an expert on Belleek who was there with some of her fascinating collection, most of which had price tags well into the thousands. She says that Irish people have traditionally been a bit sniffy about Belleek because they can't see past all those Shamrock covered cups and saucers so she is on a mission to make the huge range of highly collectable porcelain more widely known.
