COLOMBO - At least 11 government soldiers and 60 Tamil Tiger guerrillas were killed in heavy fighting in northern Sri Lanka yesterday; as troops fought their way towards a key rebel held town, official sources said.

In a statement from its London office, the Tamil Tigers said 200,000 Tamil civilians were displaced from Kilinochchi and the refugees were facing a serious food shortage.
