THE journalist Veronica Guerin and Det Garda Jerry McCabe were honoured with posthumous Peace People of the Year Awards yesterday.
Awards were also given to Det Garda Ben O'Sullivan, who was wounded in the IBA attack in Adare, Co Limerick, in which Garda McCabe was killed, and Father Kevin Doheny of the Holy Ghost Congregation, in Kimmage, Dublin, who has been active in peace work over many years.
The awards, by the Prayer Enterprise And Christian Effort (PEACE) group, were announced during a ceremony in Swords, Co Dublin.
The Cork based group was established 23 years ago to promote prayer for peace and reconciliation in Ireland.
