Guatemala City - Prof Alfonso Portillo (48) was sworn in yesterday as the country's President.
Mr Portillo, of the rightwing Guatemalan Republican Front, won a landslide victory in a December 26th run-off election, the first time Guatemalans had chosen a president since the 1996 end of a 36-year civil war which resulted in the deaths of 200,000 people, mostly civilians.
