Newbury - The last women campaigners waved goodbye to Greenham Common yesterday, ending a 19-year anti-nuclear protest which made the British airbase international news at the height of the Cold War.
Women have campaigned non-stop at Greenham, in southern England, since 1981 when the Women's Peace Camp was set after a decision to deploy 96 US Cruise missiles there from 1983.
After the Cold War ended and the missiles were removed, a small convoy of caravans stayed on to highlight the protesters' continued opposition to nuclear weapons.
