THE Irish Government has donated £75,000 to the Christian Aid group, to help Rwandan refugees returning from Zaire, writes Patsy McGarry. The money will be used for non food items, such as roofing, blankets, agricultural tools, and cooking sets, to be delivered through the Lutheran World Federation, on behalf of the Action by Churches Together group.

Announcing the grant, Christian Aid said that preparations had been made for the return of just 12,500 refugees a day, while more than 500,000 had returned in the space of a few days. The group also expressed concern about Rwanda's justice system, where 80,000 people await trial, with more arrests expected from among the returnees.
