A golfer who was injured in a golf buggy crash has settled his €38,000 damages claim against Stackstown Golf Club in the Dublin hills for an undisclosed sum.

Shopkeeper Tom Pollard was taking part in a golf classic in September 2002 to raise funds for Firhouse parish church and was being driven on the buggy by Fr Brian O’Reilly, Rathdrum Parochial House, Co Wicklow. He claimed the Rathfarnham club had allowed him to be carried on a buggy when it knew the course was unsuitable and had failed to provide a proper track on which buggies could be driven safely.

Mr Pollard (59), Carrig Wood, Firhouse, Co Dublin, claimed his right leg was injured after the buggy skidded on wet grass and careered backwards down a slope into the butt of a tree.
