London - Genetically engineered mosquitoes could one day stem the scourge of malaria in the developing world, new work by British-led scientists suggested yesterday.

A team at Imperial College, London, has created the world's first genetically modified malaria-carrying mosquito. This raises the possibility of transforming mosquitoes so they no longer harbour the organism which spreads malaria.
