London - The first authorised boxing match between British women was called off last night after fierce protests at the participation of two 13-year-olds who were due to fight each other.

Emma Brammer, of Stoke-on-Trent, withdrew from the bout hours before she was due in the ring with Andrea Prime, citing hostile media reaction and interviews with her and her family as the cause. Instead the two girls will meet at a secret venue later this month.
