A six-year-old girl is in hospital today after she was attacked by two rottweiler dogs in Co Antrim.

Sophia Kimpton was attacked on the doorstep of her holiday home and suffered 17 injuries to her head, arms and back during the attack at Conagher self-catering chalets, on a working farm in Ballymoney, Co Antrim.

She required plastic surgery after suffering the injuries.

The two dogs were shot dead by the farmer whose land they were on.

Her mother, Natasha Beckett, said her daughter would have been killed if the attack had lasted any longer. Sophia's father, Lawrence, attempted to kick the animals off before the farmer killed them.

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board said it was investigating the attack.
