A six-year-old child was knocked down and seriously injured outside a playschool in Co Donegal.

The girl was struck by a car outside Rosnakill Resource Centre in Fanad just before 12.30pm on Wednesday.

It is believed the car’s handbrake may not have been applied properly and the “people carrier” rolled forward striking the child.

She was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital for treatment and was later transferred to Dublin’s Temple Street Hospital.

Among those giving support to the family is Fanad parish priest Fr Pat McGarvey who has travelled to the hospital.

A full Garda investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
