A 10-year-old girl who is brain-damaged following a road accident is to be paid £1

A 10-year-old girl who is brain-damaged following a road accident is to be paid £1.5 million under a settlement approved by the High Court yesterday. The action was taken by Nicola Donegan, suing through her mother Phyllis, of Mountainview Drive, Rathfarnham, Dublin, against Mr Gary Devane, South Circular Road, Dublin.

It was claimed that a car being driven by Mr Devane on May 13th, 1995, had collided with Nicola at the junction of Long Lane and Clanbrassil Street, Dublin. The defence denied liability.

The figure includes sums for future and past care, appliances for Nicola for the rest of her life, the adaptation of the family's house and general damages.
