LABOUR PARTY leader Eamon Gilmore has been invited to attend the International Leadership Forum which will take place in Denver during the Democratic national convention at the end of this month.

Mr Gilmore is one of a range of politicians from across the world who have been invited to attend the forum, which is organised by the National Democratic Institute.

The forum will run in parallel with the Democratic convention, and participants can come and go between one and the other.

The objective of the forum is to bring together senior government officials, parliamentarians, diplomats and political party leaders from more than 100 countries to observe the nomination process of the Democratic Party's candidate for president and vice-president of the United States.

Throughout the convention week there will be a series of special events for the international visitors.

Participants will attend morning and afternoon seminars on topics that will alternate between US politics and international affairs.

These bipartisan panel discussions will be led by members of Congress and other prominent elected officials, journalists and opinion-formers.

The forum is designed to give participants an opportunity informally to exchange ideas with leaders and representatives of other countries throughout the world.
