Property developer Mr Tom Gilmartin claimed today he told the Tánaiste, Ms Harney, about the claimed meeting between him and Fianna Fáil ministers in February 1989.

Mr Gilmartin told the Mahon tribunal he had forgotten to mention earlier that he had discussed his ongoing problems in trying to build two shopping centres in Dublin with Ms Harney.

He described his lapse of memory as a "notable omission" in the evidence he had given to the tribunal about to the visit to the Dáil.

Mr Gilmartin said he met Ms Harney at a housewarming party in Dalkey and told her about "what was going on".

Ms Harney has confirmed that she met Mr Gilmartin in 1989 and that he told her of his difficulties. However, she insisted that was the sum total of their discussion.

The tribunal is to take up the matter with Mr Gilmartin's solicitors.
