A Cork academic has become the first Irish scholar to be awarded the £25,000 Humboldt research prize by the German government. Prof Padraig O Riain, head of the Department of Early and Medieval Irish in UCC, received the prize for his pioneering research in Irish hagiography and medieval Irish culture.
