Llanelli - A drunken man chewed the head off his girlfriend's pet gerbil after she broke his fish aquarium during a row, a Welsh court heard yesterday. Mr Jeremy Walters (22), retaliated when Ms Charmaine Rees (30), smashed the glass tank, sending his fish flapping to the floor.
He grabbed her gerbil from its cage and bit the small rodent to death while it tried to wriggle from his hand, magistrates were told in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, south Wales. Mr Walters admitted cruelty under the Protection of Animals Act. - (PA)
