LONDON - Genes, not bad diet or lack of exercise, are largely to blame for fatness in middle aged women, a medical study has found.

The research, at Guy's Hospital in London, raises the hope of finding an "obesity gene" and developing new slimming treatments to tackle weight related problems like heart disease and cancer. But doctors warned that the findings do not give the green light for people to abandon their diets and fitness regimes.
