Gardaí use Taser on hostage-taker

A man who held four people hostage during an attempted robbery was Tasered by gardaí before being arrested this morning.

A man who held four people hostage during an attempted robbery was Tasered by gardaí before being arrested this morning.

The incident happened at a pharmacy in Ladywells, Cashel, in Co Tipperary shortly after 10am.

A man aged in his 20s entered the premises with an imitation firearm and held the staff members hostage for over two hours.

Gardaí were alerted, and members from the regional support unit and negotiators arrived at scene. At about 12.20pm the suspect was arrested by gardaí after a Taser gun had been used.

The suspect sustained no injuries.
