Gardaí are looking for a motorist who ran away after knocking down and seriously injuring a toddler in Dublin on Saturday evening.

The three-year-old girl was walking with her father when a black Ford Scorpio car mounted the footpath in the Beaumont Woods area at 7.30 p.m. The male driver of the car was then seeing running away.

It is believed the car was earlier seen driving dangerously in the area.

Witnesses are asked to contact the gardaí in Santry (01-6664000).

A spokesman for Temple Street hospital said the girl was still being treated for her injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.
