Gardaí are searching near Cavan town following reported sightings of a large black cat in the area last night.
A witness reported seeing a black cat "larger than a labrador dog" running across a field and climbing a tree.
The latest sighting comes following after the black cat was spotted in the Newbliss area in West Monaghan over several months.
A Garda helicopter carrying thermal imaging equipment flew over the Monaghan area last week in an attempt to locate the cat following a sighting close to the Tully housing estate near Monaghan town.
A puma-like cat was reported to have attacked a herd of calves on two successive nights last week and killed one. It is also suspected of killing a goat in the same area over the weekend.
