Gardaí are investigating a robbery in which armed raiders held up a security van and escaped with a sum of money in Co Meath today.

The robbery happened at around 12.30 p.m. when three armed men held up the van in Bettystown. A shot was fired and the raiders escaped with the money in a blue Honda Accord.

The car was found burned out a short time later in Co Louth.

Gardaí are searching the area with assistance from the Garda air support unit.

Elsewhere, gardaí in Dublin have arrested three men after a raid on a shopping centre in Kilbarrack this morning. It is understood the men held up security staff as they left the centre at about 10.30 a.m.

Three men were later arrested by gardaí and a cashbox was recovered. The men are being held in Raheny and Clontarf Garda stations.
