GARDAI in Limerick have carried out further arrests as part of an investigation into serious crimes, including the intimidation of a garda last year.
Yesterday a man and a woman were arrested, bringing to eight the total arrested as part of the investigation since Monday. Four of the six arrested and questioned on Monday have been released. The remaining two are being held under the Offences of the State Act, along with the man and woman arrested yesterday.
They are being questioned about firearms offences as well as threats made against Garda Brendan Sheehan before he was transferred from the city's Roxboro Road station to a town in the Munster area.
At the time of the transfer the Garda authorities said Garda Sheehan had been moved for a number of reasons, which included threats. In a statement in September they said he was "not transferred solely because of threats".
When the controversy over the transfer began Mr Michael Kelly, who runs a security firm in the city, said he has been wrongly accused of making the threats. He and his brother, Anthony, said they had nothing to do with the intimidation of the garda.
