A 20-year-old man was stabbed in the chest at Mt Saint Josephs Heights in Cork early on Sunday morning, following an argument on the street. He underwent emergency surgery in Cork University Hospital.

Gardaí in Gurranabraher are investigating.

Elsewhere, gardaí are investigating an attack in which a man (26) was stabbed a number of times outside a house in Crumlin at 4.30 on Sunday morning.

The assault took place after a row outside a house on Cashel Road, and the man was taken to James Hospital.

Both men are in a critical condition.
