Gardaí are this evening investigating an armed raid on a post office in south Dublin.

Two men are understood to have broken into the post office on Woodbine Road, Donnybrook via the rear door some time before it opened this morning and surprised staff who arrived shortly after 9am.

One raider was armed with a knife and staff were threatened before a quantity of cash stolen. No one was injured during the raid.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses for anyone who was in the Trimelston / Woodbine Road area last night or in the area this morning before 9.30am to contact them at Donnybrook on 666 9200.

The raiders are described as being of medium height and to have had their faces covered with scarves.
