Gardai in the midlands have launched an investigation following a fatal car crash near Mullingar last night.
A 76-year-old man died when his van collided with another vehicle on the N4 just outside the Co Westmeath town at about 8.30 p.m.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the other car, a man in his 20s and a teenage girl, were taken to Longford/Westmeath General Hospital where their conditions are described as stable.
