The body of a man was discovered lying in open ground in Portumna, Co Galway town in the early hours of this morning.
The man, who was in his 20s, was found at St Brendan's Road at around 5.00am.
The scene has been sealed off for a Garda technical examination. The cause of death is not known.
The body was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe for a post mortem examination.
