Gardaí in Dublin are investigating after shots were fired in the Finglas area early this morning.

An altercation took place shortly after 3am at Liam Mellows Park involving the alleged attempted theft of two motorcycles by two men from a private house, a Garda statement said.

One of the men produced a handgun and discharged shots.

"It appears at this stage that a total of three shots were fired. No persons were injured," the statement said.

Gardaí responded and, in a follow-up operation, recovered a firearm, believed to be a Beretta handgun, which is currently undergoing ballistics and technical examination at the Garda Technical Bureau.

Three men in their 20s were arrested and are currently detained at Finglas Garda Station under the provisions of s.30 Offences Against the State Act.
