Gardai in Cork have opened an investigation into the death of an elderly man in the city earlier today.
The body of the 74-year-old man - as yet unnamed - was found by a relative at his home in Gurranabraher, Cork city at 12.45pm. It is understood the man lived alone.
Gardai at Gurranabraher station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the elderly man's body.
The scene has been preserved for technical examination and the State Pathologist has been notified.
